Methods I Use

EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing

EMDR is a non-drug, non-hypnosis psychotherapy procedure.  Developed by Francine Shapiro, PhD, it was originally used to treat anxiety and stress associated with traumatic memories.  Currently it is also used to successfully treat any number of disturbing emotions such as fear, grief, resentment and anger associated with a difficult life memory.  In a safe therapeutic setting, EMDR can transform these emotional reactions so they no longer have power over the client.

"EMDR, which to newcomers sounds implausible and way too good to be true, may become the psychological wonder cure of the nineties, the non-pharmaceutical equivalent of Prozac."                New York Magazine

I am listed in the directory of EMDR International Association of Certified Professionals.

EFT - Emotional Freedom Technique

EFT is a simple process which uses acupuncture points (no needles mind you) in order to clear emotional stress.  Just as needles are used in acupuncture to help clear energy blockages, tapping with your fingers to stimulate specific acupuncture points can clear emotional blockages.  I have used it on myself as well as with clients and I have found that this process consistently helps relieve stress.  No matter what is causing the emotional upset, a few "tapping rounds" of EFT can bring a sense of calm.

"EFT offers great healing benefits."  Deepok Chopra, MD

Tracking

Tracking, created by Vernon Woolf, PhD, is a process used for unfolding personal potential.  Dr. Woolf, using his training in science, psychology and religion developed this highly successful intervention to identify and transform emotional stress.  Your inner guidance combined with an innovative visualization process is used to create profound and lasting change.

Inner Child Healing

Inner child healing is a process in which we learn to re-parent the wounded parts of our inner child with unconditional love.  Throughout childhood we learn who we are through the beliefs and emotions that our parents project onto us. Having thoroughly integrated these projections, as adults we unconsciously continue to treat ourselves in the ways our parents treated us.  As we become aware of the negative aspects that we are still carrying, we learn to give ourselves the acceptance that we did not receive as children.  Healing the inner child allows you to let go of the past.  It frees you to make new life supporting choices.

Visualization or Guided Imagery

Visualization, also known as guided imagery is a potent healing process using the power of imagination.  It has been used as a healing tool in virtually all the world's cultures.  Visualization has proven to be extremely effective for reducing stress and for achieving personal goals.  In the therapeutic setting, the therapist guides you through a journey of the imagination with the intention of revealing unconscious emotions, beliefs and situations that are negatively effecting your life.  Once revealed, guided imagery and other techniques are used to transform the self defeating aspects to  positive, self affirming ones.

"Without this playing of fantasy, no creative work has ever come to birth...the debt we owe to the play of imagination is incalculable."  Carl Jung

Ritual

Ritual is a deeply transforming process.  Ritual focuses the mind and takes one from ordinary consciousness to the sacred, where we experience ourselves to be more expansive than in ordinary consciousness.  In all societies rituals are used for rites of passage such as birth, marriage and death.  In therapy ritual is used to transition to a more empowered place.  You can shift from fear to trust, from anger to peace and from self sabotage to self support.  Ritual performed with clear intention and sincerity has the power to strengthen new behaviors.
